How to Recover When You're In A Community Shit Show
How to repair, recalibrate & re-center when shit collectively hits the fan.
First Let’s Talk About St. Louis
This past week + 1 day has really rocked a lot of folks. From the recent Tornado in St. Louis. To the world stage (politics, money, on-going genocide), the Diddy trail/metaphor & utter exhaustion of the land & its people. 🌍🙏🏽
If you’ve been feeling heavy & overwhelmed - there’s good reason.
First of all, the city never gets hit like this. It’s always the county. Yet, this one managed to hit 2 seriously neglected, food-desert, mostly Black neighborhoods, North & West City? All in 15-minutes? Then blue skies? Come on now.
The sirens going off for hella long Thursday (with no text, nothing), but not Friday when people really needed it? 🤔
I’ve lived here 10 years. It looks like a fucking war-zone.
The safety, distribution & donation sites. The lights, emergency vehicles & every utility company out here trying to restore power & water. The homies who came out with chainsaws to chop up fallen trees, roofs & debris so we can get people out. Over 2,000 trees uprooted in Forest Park, at least 5,000 properties destroyed & $1.6 billion estimated in repairs.
Most of these citizens are elders. Without home, rental or car insurance. Many living in shitty situations because the landlords have neglected upkeep. Now these same rental companies, owners, government officials & others are making people move out, leave everything within DAYS? WTF is this?
Next, A History Lesson
Do you know about Kinloch? America’s First Black City? The land-grab, right by the St. Louis Lambert airport? Here’s the documentary my homegirl Alana Woodson created to tell the story.
Then Hawaii? The native land that was literally demolished? And North Carolina? The rural, mountainous range that also lacks hella resources & escape routes?
What do these areas have in common? Major land & energetic hot spots. If a MF wanted to harness the energy of the land & its people, it would take these places. Think Africa & all its natural resources. The Amazon. India, Australia. Alaska for fuck’s sake! This has BEEN the play throughout history.
This land is fertile. Cahokia Mounds? An indigenous sacred site & major trade hub that had more pyramids than Kemet, Egypt. Right here, by the Arch, The Gateway to the West. The Mississippi is the largest river in America. It runs from the top down & meets another big one - the Missouri River RIGHT HERE. Old maps show St. Louis as the next big city. Shoot, even Chicago gang & mob members hung out here so they could “be out the way,” but still run business. Before Lewis & Clark created the Trail of Tears & took all that indigenous land too!
Tying in Diddy - When I moved out here, I drove from California. I was SHOOK at all the truck stops in the Midwest. There are A LOT of missing children posters here. In the bathrooms, rest stops & tourist areas. A LOT of trafficking happens. Think about the Diddy case & how many celebs, government officials & folks we “grew up with” are involved.
Did you know California is now lowering the age of sexual consent? WTF would they do that? Hollywood? It’s TRUTH that has to be exposed. Epstein Island. It’s a prelude to more foul shit that is happening behind the scenes.
Now, The Motive
If you’re from the Bay Area you know, weather has been manufactured. Right by the Richmond Bridge & San Quentin - that’s a hub. It’ll be raining & storming there, and no where else. If you see chem trails - that’s chemicals. Deliberately sprayed over crops, animals, farm land, houses & entire cities - CONSTANTLY. This has been happening since I was a little girl (I’m about to turn 35, born in 1990).
Storms are literally created:
By natives to protect themselves - like the Incas (in Machu Picchu), the Irish & many other islanders in the Caribbean & Polynesia.
By colonizers in the name of “Manifest Destiny” aka romanticized nationalism rooted in entitlement & greed. Global warming caused by capitalism & consumerism, but also intentional attacks to clear land, rebuild & do what they want with it. Think airports, shopping malls, “luxury” gentrification.
By Pachamama (Mother Earth & the Cosmos), when change & clearing is needed. Think volcanos. Pele & Kali energy.
You can summon the weather, stop it & also if your intentions are off, you’ll use that power against people. The Day After Tomorrow was released in 2004 y’all!
21 years ago! Hollywood always drops hints.
Finally, The World Stage
90 million people did not vote in the 2024 presidential election. Because we’re done. With the lies, with BS & the shenanigans. No matter what your political beliefs are, we know that people are & have BEEN suffering. We know shit is too expensive, jobs are insecure & housing is a nightmare.
There is a massive, collective disbelief, exhaustion & yes - uprising:
The Rise of the Run Club - If you have not joined a Run Club in 2025, you're missing out. On people who truly care, on being out in nature & training for Training Day.
The Rise of Mental Health - If you have not seen a therapist in 2025, you’re suffering more than you need to. You're holding onto old shit & you’re compromising your potential.
The Rise of Body Awareness - If you’re not eating clean & mostly plant-based in 2025, you’re inflamed, neglecting your system, nutrient-deficient & leaking good, clean energy that could be used elsewhere.
2025 is a 9 year. 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 9. 9 means endings. Real wisdom, real change & grand finales. This is the last time you’ll do a lot of shit, because you have finally learned the lesson. The 9 also represents the Divine Feminine. The fury & rage is real. Intuition too. Mother Nature can kill. But always, for truth, for healing & to get to the root. Listen to this recent podcast with my indigenous bae Amanda Tello for more.
There’s also a lot in the stars this year. Basically all of the outer planets (generational & cultural shifts) are changing & switching signs. Some for 250+ years! That’s the average age of an empire. The US is THERE y’all. We’re also officially in the age of Aquarius - collective action, humanitarianism & revolution!
So What Can We Do?
Pour into yourself. Get fit. Learn new (useable) skills. Teach your children. Start thinking about your emergency situation - get your documents in order (this is a project I been working on). Will, trust & power of attorney. Insurance, food, water, bikes, camping gear. Digitalizing your important shit. In case you can’t grab the paperwork when shit hits the fan.
Minimizing & downsizing your stuff. Getting a generator, keeping your rechargeable items ready. Making friends with farmers & folks who have land, solar panels & think similarly. Learning self-defense, CPR, plant-medicine. Building an apothecary or a garden. Learning how to start a fire.
Familiarize yourself with the area. Get a real map. Flashlights. Keep it in an emergency bag. Have a mutual meeting space/location for friends & family. Talk about the hard shit ahead of time. Have a group chat. Share your location with your trusted circle. Explain to your kids what you will do, what important information they need to know. And WHERE it is. Share Google Docs, whatever you can so nobody is unable to get what they need when they need it.
When I had my emergency c-section in 2018 for my oldest, my bag was packed. I sent 2 text messages about my dog & my boss. And I was GUCCI. Peaceful. Ready for the initiation. We want to feel like that. Not scramble or freeze in the final hour.
You have options, you have choices. Connect with your circle today. Get involved.
Read my last post on all the Resources for STL during this rebuild.
We will get through this & we’ll learn from it. Period.
Please share, comment, tag your friends.
If this Tornado has taught me anything, it’s that WE GOT US. We’re prepared. We’re strong, we’re capable. But there’s always an opportunity to take it up a notch. #Leggo
